One of the problems we meet comes from the lack of digital exposure, and we have a situation in which many of those who support and advise young people (as an example) can barely keep up with the pace of change themselves. Many cannot. It is time we realised that. The situation worsens when you look into the upper strata of those who are defining where the emphasis should be – they are generally digitally under informed.
What is required now is a bold approach that really has no risks in the longer term. I have met and experienced the tendency to retain older and outdated strategies and to declare more exciting and advanced changes as ‘unsafe’ or a threat. This is rubbish. A brave attitude only becomes risky at the very leading edge of digital technological change… There are proven and well tested solutions that are solid in application – what we do not have are the confident Managers to put these tools and resources into action.
I once worked with an ICT Manager who found every excuse NOT to implement change – when the need was screaming at us and the potential customers readied to accept new ways of doing things. “No, it is not ready yet, we need A and B and C”. Well, those days are behind us – or need to be, and the change needs to happen NOW.
