I had the chance to talk about the contributions I can make with the invention of my software methods to develop data skills.

I have also made a suggestion of how to make bidding more effective to Crown Commercial Services.

I have attended Open DEFRA meetings hoping to get funding.

What else can I do?

They have the skills however seem to struggle to get back into employment because they need flexible hours. I know many who have exactly the skills needed but can’t work traditional (old school) hours at one location. In the digital age, why do they need to be in one location working a 9-5. Are we still in the 1950’s?

The six point plan which the Digital Policy Alliance has just issued in advance of a 21st Century Skills review meeting summarises both the problem and a way forward. An earlier draft of the plan can be found one of my blog entries last month: http://www.computerweekly.com/blog/When-IT-Meets-Politics/Brexit-adds-urgency-to-sorting-UK-skills-supply

We need a coordinated effort to bring all the different initiatives together to get more young people into tech, especially girls. I am involved in so many across our region including Durham County Council, Dynamo North East, FDisruptors, NEICT etc.
