{"id":19329,"date":"2017-05-11T16:21:15","date_gmt":"2017-05-11T15:21:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/digileaders.com\/?p=19329"},"modified":"2019-05-08T14:46:43","modified_gmt":"2019-05-08T13:46:43","slug":"young-digital-leaders-start-small-think-big","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/digileaders.com\/young-digital-leaders-start-small-think-big\/","title":{"rendered":"Young Digital Leaders who start small and Think Big"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/news.o2.co.uk\/2017\/05\/10\/young-digital-leaders-start-small-think-big\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">This post first appeared on the O2 News Blog here<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Digital Leaders 2017<a href=\"http:\/\/www.digileaders100.com\/\"> DL100<\/a> was released today recognising individuals and organisations who demonstrate a pioneering and sustainable approach to digital transformation.\u00a0 And I am so proud to see that two of O2\u2019s Think Big project leaders are recognised as finalists in the Mobile Innovation of the Year category.<\/p>\n<p>Huge congratulations to both Claudine and Lewis for making the list \u2013 and it is now up to the public to decide on the winners in each category.<\/p>\n<p>The Mobile Innovation of the Year award recognises innovation in the mobile sector that has had a measureable impact on its target community.\u00a0 Since 2010, O2 has awarded over 8000 grants of \u00a3300 to young people to lead a project to have a social benefit in their community.\u00a0 And as experts in mobile technology, we encourage and support digital innovations that use tech for social good \u2013 so it\u2019s not surprising to see some of the young people we have supported in this award.<\/p>\n<p>But the support from O2 was just the start for our Think Big project leaders, and it is great to see how the passion, determination and brilliance of young people can transform their ideas into reality, growing their projects into respected initiatives and continuing make a difference.<\/p>\n<p>Huge congratulations to both Claudine and Lewis for making it into the DL100, it is truly an amazing achievement and great recognition of their dedication to developing their innovations.<\/p>\n<p>But they need your help! Voting has opened to the public today.\u00a0 Please visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.digileaders100.com\/#categories\">the site<\/a> to vote, and look at all the other brilliant finalists across the categories.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.o2thinkbig.co.uk\/be-inspired\/stories\/career-ear-app-bringing-instant-career-advice-your-inbox\">Claudine<\/a> has been recognised for her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bXENjSfmFlE\"><em>Career Ear<\/em><\/a> app (available in the App store!) \u2013 saddened by the huge numbers of young people, particularly those from less privileged backgrounds, without the right contacts to offer them quality career advice, Claudine developed Career Ear, the UK\u2019s first Q&amp;A careers advice app, with funding from O2\u2019s Think Big.\u00a0 Young career seekers can download the free Career Ear app to ask career questions. They select an industry, anything from architecture to music, and professionals who work in those industries answer via the app.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lewishine.co.uk\/\">Lewis<\/a> was diagnosed with a brain tumour at 17 months.\u00a0 He has had more than 13 brain operations and suffers from seizures most days.\u00a0 His disability has meant he has spent a lot of time in hospital, which can be isolating and lonely.\u00a0 He used funding from Think Big to set up \u2018Friend Finder\u2019 to help connect young people who miss a lot of school to make friends and stay in touch.\u00a0 As well as an online world, Lewis is piloting NFC gadgets to enable children to safely and securely exchange contact details and keep in touch, as Lewis knows another part of being poorly and missing school is that children can find it hard to read and write.\u00a0 Lewis recently turned 16 and posted a moving video about his challenges that has now had over 30 million views \u2013 watch it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/lewishineofficial\/videos\/vb.512493875587776\/520121111491719\/?type=2&amp;theater\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>These are just two examples of young people who have taken bold moves that have had a positive impact.\u00a0 And to help inspire more young people to take their own bold moves, we are partnering with TEDxTeen to bring the conference to London.\u00a0 Young people can <a href=\"https:\/\/gothinkbig.co.uk\/opportunities\/ted-x-teen-audience\">register now<\/a> to attend the event for free on June 24<sup>th<\/sup> at indigo at The O2, to hear from an amazing line up of speakers.<\/p>\n<p>We know that young people can be a force for good, and we know that technology is a great enabler, and with a little help to bring to two together
