{"id":25079,"date":"2019-02-07T12:07:05","date_gmt":"2019-02-07T12:07:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/digileaders.com\/?p=25079"},"modified":"2019-12-23T16:39:35","modified_gmt":"2019-12-23T16:39:35","slug":"inspiring-transformational-conversations-ai-data-analytics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/digileaders.com\/inspiring-transformational-conversations-ai-data-analytics\/","title":{"rendered":"Inspiring transformational conversations on AI &#038; data analytics in the public sector"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"s2\">We\u2019ve partnered with <\/span><span class=\"s2\">D<\/span><span class=\"s2\">igital <\/span><span class=\"s2\">L<\/span><span class=\"s2\">eaders <\/span><span class=\"s2\">in AI and Data Analytics <\/span><span class=\"s2\">to <\/span><span class=\"s2\">inspire transformation<\/span><span class=\"s2\">al conversations<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> in the public sector<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s4\">The UK public sector stands to benefit immensely <\/span><span class=\"s4\">from digital transformation.<\/span> <span class=\"s4\">The use of a<\/span><span class=\"s4\">rtificial intelligence (AI),<\/span> <span class=\"s4\">big data and analytics c<\/span><span class=\"s4\">ould<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> deliver better outcomes for employees and citizens. <\/span><span class=\"s4\">But there are challenges to be overcome\u2014including <\/span><span class=\"s4\">a s<\/span><span class=\"s4\">kills shortage, political uncertainty, legacy infrastructure and regulations. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s4\">To <\/span><span class=\"s4\">help the public sector meet these challenges,<\/span> <span class=\"s4\">I think <\/span><span class=\"s4\">it\u2019s important to encourage a healthy dialogue<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> between technology experts and government leaders<\/span><span class=\"s4\">. <\/span><span class=\"s4\">T<\/span><span class=\"s4\">hat\u2019s why<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> Cognizant has <\/span><span class=\"s4\">partnered with Digital Leaders. I\u2019m excited about t<\/span><span class=\"s4\">he Digital Leaders<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> platform because <\/span><span class=\"s4\">it enables a <\/span><span class=\"s4\">discuss<\/span><span class=\"s4\">ion of<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> technology from three crucial perspectives\u2014<\/span><span class=\"s4\">technology for <\/span><span class=\"s4\">business, for <\/span><span class=\"s4\">technologists<\/span><span class=\"s4\">,<\/span> <span class=\"s4\">and for the greater public good.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s4\">Digital Leaders<\/span> <span class=\"s4\">takes<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> an innovative <\/span><span class=\"s4\">approach to <\/span><span class=\"s4\">debating digital transformation\u2014<\/span><span class=\"s4\">it <\/span><span class=\"s4\">h<\/span><span class=\"s4\">osts<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> large events, roundtables and panels, but <\/span><span class=\"s4\">it<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> also use<\/span><span class=\"s4\">s its<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> digital channel as a <\/span><span class=\"s4\">primary<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> way of communicating. <\/span><span class=\"s4\">I believe <\/span><span class=\"s4\">this <\/span><span class=\"s4\">makes <\/span><span class=\"s4\">it<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> a<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> perfect match for<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> Cognizant<\/span><span class=\"s4\">, as w<\/span><span class=\"s4\">e have a similar agile<\/span><span class=\"s4\">, open and<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> digital ethos.<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> Together, we<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> want to <\/span><span class=\"s4\">promote<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> the <\/span><span class=\"s4\">\u201c<\/span><span class=\"s4\">democrati<\/span><span class=\"s4\">s<\/span><span class=\"s4\">ation of digital<\/span><span class=\"s4\">\u201d<\/span><span class=\"s4\">, while also strengthening the services we\u2019re able to provide to government.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s4\">Over<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> the next few months, I\u2019m going to be working with<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> Digital Leaders<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> to<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> demystify some of the hype <\/span><span class=\"s4\">and buzzwords <\/span><span class=\"s4\">surrounding<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> technologies like AI, big data and analytics and <\/span><span class=\"s4\">exploring how the public sector can use<\/span><span class=\"s4\">these <\/span><span class=\"s4\">technologies <\/span><span class=\"s4\">to o<\/span><span class=\"s4\">vercome some of its biggest challenges<\/span><span class=\"s4\">. Here\u2019s a preview of what\u2019s to come.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s5\">Digital transformation goals in the public sector<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s7\">The UK public sector is <\/span><span class=\"s7\">already <\/span><span class=\"s7\">technologically advanced (<\/span><span class=\"s7\">globally, <\/span><span class=\"s7\">it\u2019s<\/span><span class=\"s7\"> ranked 4<\/span><span class=\"s8\">th<\/span><span class=\"s7\"> in the UN\u2019s E-Government Index), but the journey is never complete. Digital transformation remains <\/span><span class=\"s7\">an urgent priority <\/span><span class=\"s7\">because it can deliver <\/span><span class=\"s7\">real results <\/span><span class=\"s7\">in <\/span><span class=\"s7\">the following areas<\/span><span class=\"s7\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"s12\"><strong><span class=\"s10\">Improving citizen experiences<\/span><span class=\"s10\">:<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"s11\"> In the private sector, citizens are already accustomed to receiving consistent, positive, seamless interactions\u2014especially from tech<\/span><span class=\"s11\">nology<\/span><span class=\"s11\"> giants like Amazon and Uber. But can the same be said of citizens\u2019 interactions <\/span><span class=\"s11\">and how human-centred design fits with government services?<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"s12\"><strong><span class=\"s10\">Ensuring social accessibility<\/span><span class=\"s10\">:<\/span><\/strong> <span class=\"s11\">Although <\/span><span class=\"s11\">just about <\/span><span class=\"s11\">everyone <\/span><span class=\"s11\">may have <\/span><span class=\"s11\">access to the internet, it may be that the very people you\u2019re trying to serve have difficulty with accessibility.<\/span><span class=\"s11\"> So, h<\/span><span class=\"s11\">ow can we bring <\/span><span class=\"s11\">social, <\/span><span class=\"s11\">moral, <\/span><span class=\"s11\">behavioural and human <\/span><span class=\"s11\">sciences <\/span><span class=\"s11\">together <\/span><span class=\"s11\">when implementing new technologies to ensure equal access to <\/span><span class=\"s11\">all citizens<\/span><span class=\"s11\">?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span class=\"s10\">Delivering joined-up services<\/span><span class=\"s10\">:<\/span><\/strong> <span class=\"s11\">By 2020, government\u2019s Transformation Strategy <\/span><span class=\"s11\">echoes <\/span><span class=\"s11\">that departments will \u201cdesign and deliver joined-up, end-to-end services\u201d.<\/span> <span class=\"s11\">Amid departmental complexities around legacy, funding and the call for <\/span><span class=\"s11\">open<\/span><span class=\"s11\"> standards, how can we <\/span><span class=\"s11\">facilitate <\/span><span class=\"s11\">interoperability between departments where there is a need for <\/span><span class=\"s11\">joined-up<\/span><span class=\"s11\"> services? <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s11\">To achieve these goals, the effective use of <\/span><span class=\"s11\">AI, data and analytics is crucial.<\/span><span class=\"s11\"> AI can help you understand citizen needs and identify where improvements in your services can be made, <\/span><span class=\"s11\">and where you can <\/span><span class=\"s11\">have <\/span><span class=\"s11\">the most<\/span><span class=\"s11\"> impact<\/span><span class=\"s11\">. <\/span><span class=\"s11\">AI\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s11\">and <\/span><span class=\"s11\">a<\/span><span class=\"s11\">nalytics <\/span><span class=\"s11\">can help manage risks too. For example, <\/span><span class=\"s7\">our data scientists are working with the Food Standards Agency (FSA), helping it use <\/span><span class=\"s7\">advanced<\/span><span class=\"s7\"> analytics to assess food safety, forecast risks and protect citizen wellbeing. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s13\">How to make a success of digital transformation<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s4\">I have no doubt that<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> the public sector realise<\/span><span class=\"s4\">s <\/span><span class=\"s4\">the value of <\/span><span class=\"s4\">data and AI<\/span><span class=\"s4\">, <\/span><span class=\"s4\">but <\/span><span class=\"s4\">it can be hard to put <\/span><span class=\"s4\">this vision <\/span><span class=\"s4\">into action.<\/span> <span class=\"s4\">One thing we need to consider is the \u201cneed for speed\u201d<\/span><span class=\"s4\">, g<\/span><span class=\"s4\">iven <\/span><span class=\"s4\">the dynamic nature of policy-making right <\/span><span class=\"s4\">now<\/span><span class=\"s4\">\u2014<\/span><span class=\"s4\">especially with<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> current<\/span> <span class=\"s4\">EU exit<\/span> <span class=\"s4\">uncertainties.<\/span> <span class=\"s4\">To overcome this challenge, you need a digital infrastructure that\u2019s built to scale and<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> can<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> evolve quickly. And by transitioning to APIs and a platform-based approach, you can plug<\/span><span class=\"s4\">&#8211;<\/span><span class=\"s4\">and<\/span><span class=\"s4\">&#8211;<\/span><span class=\"s4\">play new digital solutions from different vendors as they emerge.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s7\">For example, at Cognizant<\/span><span class=\"s7\">,<\/span><span class=\"s7\"> we\u2019re working with Her Majesty\u2019s Passport Office (HMPO) to transition data into one integrated platform, and helping it to implement an online booking system.
