Many people are facing the prospect of self-isolating or shielding themselves for<\/span> <span class=\"s3\">weeks. It is a situation none of us have faced before.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s3\">Thankfully, for many people digital technology can provide some comfort. It means they will still be able to see friends and family, shop for groceries, find health information and participate in activities to keep them occupied. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s3\">For 1 in 10 of us however, this is not the case. <\/span><span class=\"s3\">And for older people<\/span><span class=\"s3\">,<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> the proportion who are digitally excluded is much higher than that. <\/span><span class=\"s3\">Many people, particularly those who are elderly or vulnerable, will be lonely and isolated. Accessing vital services, such as their GP or hospital specialist, is now a huge challenge.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s3\">Thanks to funding from Welsh Government, t<\/span><span class=\"s3\">he <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/wales.coop\/\"><span class=\"s4\">Wales Co-operative Centre<\/span><\/a> <span class=\"s3\">is<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> proud to be <\/span><span class=\"s3\">helping to make life a little easier for some of the most vulnerable people in our society. We are <\/span><span class=\"s3\">working<\/span> <span class=\"s3\">with Welsh Government<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> and NHS Wales<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> to assist with the <\/span><span class=\"s3\">urgent distribution of tablet <\/span><span class=\"s3\">devices<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> to health and care settings across Wales<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> to help people get connected<\/span><span class=\"s3\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s3\">Welsh Government is providing <\/span><span class=\"s3\">funding to buy more than a thousand new tablets to distribute through<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> this new device loan scheme. It will be delivered as part of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/digitalcommunities.gov.wales\/\"><span class=\"s4\">Digital Communities Wales<\/span><\/a><span class=\"s3\"> initiative, a programme led by the Wales Co-operative Centre. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s3\">There is an urgent<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> demand for tablets to enable people to <\/span><span class=\"s3\">speak to their GP during this awful <\/span><span class=\"s3\">pandemic. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s3\">The tablet <\/span><span class=\"s3\">computers <\/span><span class=\"s3\">will<\/span> <span class=\"s3\">support <\/span><span class=\"s3\">the<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> \u2018<\/span><span class=\"s5\">Attend Anywhere<\/span><span class=\"s5\">\u2019<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> service<\/span><span class=\"s3\">, which is being rolled out <\/span><span class=\"s3\">rapidly <\/span><span class=\"s3\">across the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gov.wales\/rapid-expansion-video-consultation-service-secondary-and-community-care\"><span class=\"s4\">Welsh NHS<\/span><\/a><span class=\"s3\">. <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Attend Anywhere<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> is a<\/span><span class=\"s3\">n<\/span> <span class=\"s3\">easy-to-<\/span><span class=\"s3\">use <\/span><span class=\"s3\">video consulting service that enables people to have health and social care appointments from home or wherever is convenient.<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> It<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> will mean that residents and patients will be able to have remote consultations with their GPs and other healthcare providers<\/span><span class=\"s3\">,<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> that might otherwise have been difficult or event impossible.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s3\">The devices will be sent out to care homes, hospices and ward setting<\/span><span class=\"s3\">s<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> in the coming weeks<\/span><span class=\"s3\">. <\/span><span class=\"s3\">A<\/span><span class=\"s3\">n experienced <\/span><span class=\"s3\">team <\/span><span class=\"s3\">from Digital Communities Wales<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> will provide <\/span><span class=\"s3\">remote <\/span><span class=\"s3\">training and support to key workers on how to use and operate the technology with people in their care.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s3\">The distribution of the devices will be <\/span><span class=\"s3\">agreed in partnership with<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> health boards who know where the devices are needed in their area. We cannot respond directly to requests from <\/span><span class=\"s3\">people and organisations<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> because <\/span><span class=\"s3\">at the moment<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> we must prioritise our support to where the need is greatest<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> for health and c<\/span><span class=\"s3\">are reasons. It is a hugely exciting initiative that will enhance the lives of many vulnerable people across the country and help o<\/span><span class=\"s3\">ur NHS at this challenging time. W<\/span><span class=\"s3\">e are delighted to be helping to make it happen.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Digital Communities Wales &#8211; Digital Confidence, Health and Well-being is a Welsh Government project which is delivered by the Wales Co-operative Centre.
