{"id":32115,"date":"2021-03-23T16:23:35","date_gmt":"2021-03-23T16:23:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/digileaders.com\/?p=32115"},"modified":"2021-03-23T16:23:35","modified_gmt":"2021-03-23T16:23:35","slug":"scotlands-digital-strategy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/digileaders.com\/scotlands-digital-strategy\/","title":{"rendered":"Scotland&#8217;s Digital Strategy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Scotland\u2019s updated digital strategy was published last week &#8211; not surprisingly I would encourage everyone to read it and get a sense of how we believe that Scotland can thrive in a digital world. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.scot\/publications\/a-changing-nation-how-scotland-will-thrive-in-a-digital-world\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s2\">https:\/\/www.gov.scot\/publications\/a-changing-nation-how-scotland-will-thrive-in-a-digital-world\/<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The strategy is, of course, being published, at an extraordinary time.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Our thoughts are rightly with those who have suffered in so many ways and those who have worked so tirelessly to help others.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The use of digital technology is only a very small part of the story, but I do believe that it\u2019s worth telling and worth reflecting on \u2013 as the updated strategy does &#8211; how it has changed our economy, society and approach to public services so dramatically. Every sector of our economy has spun up new services and scaled old ones, embeded new digital business models and worked remotely in unprecedented numbers.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We\u2019ve relied on digital infrastructure to shop, engage with public services and keep in touch with our family and friends \u2013 and we\u2019ve seen a compelling illustration of the importance of digital inclusion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It\u2019s against this background \u2013 the interest and opportunity it\u2019s created in digital transformation, culture and business models \u2013 we have chosen to set out our plans.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I can\u2019t summarise it here, but I think it should rise to the top of that pile of reading that many of us collect because I believe it\u2019s a strategy that truly reflects the world in which we live \u2013 the digital world with its ability to network, exchange data and collaborate at a speed that changes everything.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I think this can be seen in a number of ways: <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">First, it\u2019s been produced jointly by Scottish Government and Scottish Local Government \u2013 with each having an equal voice and both being committed equally to its delivery \u2013 both at a policy level and through very practical commitments to common standards and a shared Digital Academy.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>This it seems to me is collaboration in practice;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Second, it commits Scotland to engaging with other governments to develop ideas and promote solutions to truly global international challenges \u2013 around the ethical use of data, the regulation of the technology industry, the application of technology to tackling climate change.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>No one country has a monopoly of wisdom, and no one country has all the levers required to respond to what are, in many senses, the defining public policy challenges of our age;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Third, it positions government in Scotland at the heart of an ecosystem &#8211; familiar words, I know, to those involve in Digital Leaders &#8211; but words that we translate into new ways of working with the commercial market, extending our CivTech incubator to use public sector challenges to stimulate and scale new businesses and working to support the third sector in its own plans for digital transformation;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Finally \u2013 and I believe this runs through the whole document \u2013 the strategy aims to ensure that everybody benefits from the opportunities that lie ahead.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>A focus on inclusive design, on developing digital skills, extending connectivity and tackling the financial barriers to digital inclusion by building on our Connecting Scotland programme to ensure world class levels of digital inclusion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Our strategy is about enabling our country \u2013 the whole of our country \u2013 to thrive.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I know you all have many competing demands on you at the moment, but I hope you find something in it that\u2019s useful and would really love to hear any comments you might have.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span class=\"btn-container\"><a class=\"btn btn-md btn-primary\" href=\"https:\/\/digileaders.com\/insights\/\">More thought leadership <i class=\"far fa-caret-right\"><\/i><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Scotland\u2019s updated digital strategy was published last week &#8211; not surprisingly I would encourage everyone to read it and get a sense of how we believe that Scotland can thrive in a digital world. \u00a0 https:\/\/www.gov.scot\/publications\/a-changing-nation-how-scotland-will-thrive-in-a-digital-world\/.\u00a0 The strategy is, of course, being published, at an [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":51,"featured_media":32117,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-32115","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","region-scotland","topic-government","topic-transformation"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.3 -
